SOLDIER'S REDEMPTION
Off to defend a family and home, you reluctantly leave behind
Off to face an enemy, far removed, from familiar peace of mind
Learn to feel a hatred, toward men you never knew
Death to these people, because they, want death for you
No remorse for the destruction, or the death you see
Just focus on your mission, to keep your homeland free
All your enemies are evil, and they all deserve to die
The enemies are dressed like friendlies, anyone can be a spy
With mission term completed, you return, to an unfamiliar home
Confused by how lost it feels, on the land you always roamed
Now you need to, "love your enemies", but, you have forgotten how
Trust the strangers, even when, they are all around
Just pretend the past didn't happen, let it all, fall back in place
Walk with pride, and keep a smile, upon your face
Never forget what happened, but forget, what you've done
Never mind what you seen, just pretend, that you had fun
Act like you survived your mission, but you know you really fell
This person you pretend to be, is burning in his hell
The family and friends you had, are now strangers, that you know
The family that you know, are now strangers on the go
Why is everything so different, you weren't gone all that long
Why does everyone look at you, like you've done something wrong
Your friends are no longer comrades, and your comrades are no longer friends
You think you will eventually adjust, but the feeling never ends
All your dreams become nightmares, that keep you up at night
As a warrior you had purpose, now, no meaning, is in sight
Praised and rewarded,, for your deeds, stemmed from hate
Deeds you know were evil, in ways you can't relate
Keep that within, at all cost, it must hide
Basking in the praise, pretend your pain is pride
The home and family you fought for, you depended for support
Have left you all alone, defenseless within your fort
Once a fearless warrior, now caged in mortal fear
Just jump into a bottle of pills, there is no use, for you here
As your deeds are praised, not punished, considered righteous sin
You are trapped inside a past, forever lost within
Swinging from your pills, this was not, the life you dreamed
Give up your final breath to peace, at last, you are redeemed
